Billing and plans
What each plan includes, what happens when you go over, and how to change plan.

sonex is priced by tracked events per month. An event is a pageview or a custom event. Your plan sets how many are included, how many websites and seats you get, and how long data is kept.

How you pay
How you pay decides whether overage is billed or extra events are dropped.
- A card subscription renews monthly. Events above the included allowance are metered and billed as overage.
- A prepaid stablecoin (USDC) term is paid once. It buys 6 or 12 months up front at a discount, with the longer term discounted harder.
Which of the two you are offered depends on where you are. USDC is available only in the countries we bill directly; everywhere else card is the only option, Stripe is the merchant of record, and it handles your local tax. The country you declare at checkout decides, and that decision holds for the life of the purchase.
A prepaid term does not renew and cannot be cancelled part-way. It is hard-capped at its included events, and it has no customer portal because there is no subscription to manage. Access ends on its own at the end of the term.
An on-chain payment can confirm after the checkout page finishes, so the plan activates when Stripe reports the payment succeeded. Closing the tab does not lose it.
The dashboard starts a countdown 30 days before a prepaid term ends and says plainly that nothing renews it. Nothing is emailed. A running term cannot be topped up, and another purchase is refused until it has ended. A full refund ends the access it bought; a partial refund does not.
Going over your event quota
This is the part worth reading before you need it, because the two cases are genuinely different:
- Without a monthly card subscription, extra events are dropped. Free stops accepting events past 2k in a calendar month. A prepaid stablecoin term stops at its plan allowance. Nothing is billed and nothing is recovered; those visits are not counted.
- A monthly card subscription meters overage. Events above the included allowance keep recording and are billed per event at the rate above, up to the overage cap. Past that cap, extra events are dropped rather than creating an unbounded bill.
The app warns you before either happens: a usage banner appears at 80% of your included events, and the Billing panel shows a meter of events used against included.
Feature limits
Funnel and Retention reports need Pro or higher. They appear in the Reports rail with a lock and explain the upgrade in place. Everything else, including Realtime, Goals, Journey, Attribution, UTM and Performance, is on every plan including Free.
Hitting your website limit means the add-website dialog tells you so rather than failing after you have typed everything in.
Changing plan
Open the settings dialog from your avatar in the dock and go to Billing. From Free, choosing Pro, Pro Plus or Business sends you to checkout. On a card subscription, changing plan is a proration inside the existing subscription rather than a new checkout. The customer portal is where you change payment details, download invoices, or cancel.
Cancelling leaves you on Free at the end of the paid period. Your data stays, subject to Free’s retention window.
A prepaid plan has no customer portal. The Billing panel shows its end date and, during the last 30 days, a countdown that says nothing renews it. Access ends on its own at the end of the term.
Retention
Raw analytics rows older than your plan’s window (6 months on Free, 1 year on Pro, 2 years on Pro Plus, 5 years on Business) are deleted by a purge job. Retention is a property of the plan, not of a website, so upgrading widens the window going forward. It does not bring back what has already aged out.
